For the clothes washer - Put one small towel in the washer (do not add detergent) then set for a hot wash cycle. Let it run 5 minutes and then stop the machine and look inside for suds or soap residue. If you see suds or residue you still have soap in your clothes which can make them dull, dingy, and stiff. You will need to wash them a couple of times without any soap to remove all the dried soap from the fabric. To solve this problem, get Washer Magic washing machine cleaner and run this through the machine on a hot wash cycle. You may have to do this more than once to get the soap out. For the dishwasher - Run the hot water at your sink until the water is good and hot. Next start your dishwasher with nothing in it and no detergent added. Let it run 5 minutes then stop it and look inside. If you see suds or soapy film on the water then you have a soap build up in the pump and spray arms. You can buy Dishwasher Cleaner at most supermarkets; (Dishwasher Magic or Glisten) you may need to run cleaner through 2 to 3 times to get the soap out. If you have soft water make sure you are not using detergent that has rinse aid added to the soap - Cascade Complete, Cascade Pure Rinse, Cascade Shine Shield - these all have rinse aid added. There are several other brands that also have rinse aid so look at the box closely. Be sure to use the liquid Rinse Aid in the dispenser on the door to insure you get a spot free rinse and help with drying the dishes.
